This write-up is largely inspired by the LinkedIn posts I read last month. It captures a conversation between my 25-year-old self and my current 38-year-old self.

Finding Your Place in the World

Padawan Mac: I am worried about my current role, the company culture fit, and my future. I’m unhappy. What should I do?

Jedi Mac: You will do your best because that’s the only option you have. In the process, you will make mistakes. You will learn more about yourself, annoy some people, and acquire skills you never thought possible.

Embracing Sales: An Unexpected Path

Padawan Mac: Am I cut out for sales? I am introverted and not a people person.

Jedi Mac: Yes, you will do fine in sales. Most salespeople are made, not born. Along the way, you will attend courses, learn from experts, and go through plenty of trial and error. Your journey will not be easy since you were not born with a silver spoon. People will look at you in disbelief as you develop the skills and personality to close eight-figure deals over time.

Overcoming Self-Doubt

Padawan Mac: Is there something wrong with me?

Jedi Mac: You are perfect just the way you are. You are kind, brave, and human. Not everyone will like you, just as not everyone is your cup of tea. Just remember to manage your temperament and think before you speak. You will do just fine. Many people quietly admire and support you. You will meet incredible people on your journey ahead.

The Importance of Kindness

Padawan Mac: Why are you so kind to me?

Jedi Mac: Why not? You are always kind to others. Just remember not to be too hard on yourself.

The Corporate World vs. Entrepreneurship

Padawan Mac: Am I suited for the corporate world?

Jedi Mac: No, you are not. But it will take you years to realize this. You are not a bootlicker; you wear your heart on your sleeve and have poor acting skills. But you possess qualities that will help you thrive—perhaps even through a business for takeover in Singapore where you can shape your own path. .

Advice for Growth

Advice for Growth

Padawan Mac: Is there any advice you would give me?

Jedi Mac: Your employers will come to value you. However, some of them will not treat you right. You don’t have to be loyal to them, nor do you need to play the corporate game. You will make the mistake of trusting some of them, and, consequently, you may find yourself thrown under the bus. This will be a painful lesson for you and a loss for them. There’s nothing to be ashamed of; it’s a part of your life journey.

Envisioning the Future

Padawan Mac: What am I like in the future?

Jedi Mac: You will admire and respect the person you have become. I wish I could be there for you when the storm hits. Remember to love yourself and those around you.

A Promise for Tomorrow

Padawan Mac: Will I do fine in the future?

Jedi Mac: Yes, you will. I promise you that. The universe will send people to aid you in your time of need. Stay strong and have fun!

Conclusion: Trust Yourself

As I reflect on this conversation between my younger and older self, I realize the importance of self-belief. You must trust your journey, even when it feels uncertain. The lessons learned from mistakes shape who you will become. The phrase “trust the journey” rings true. Embrace your experiences, and keep moving forward.
